Vascular Societies' Annual Scientific Meeting 2019 was held at Manchester Central Convention Complex on 27th - 29th November 2019. The Meeting saw an over 1,000 attendees through its door, all with a vision of a safe sustainable vascular service.
Hundreds of talks were given at this years scientific meeting throughout the venue. Delegates had to make tough decisions as to which sessions they would attend, and which they would have to miss.
Professor Loftus' President's symposium was titled "Safe, Sustainable Vascular Service for 2020 and beyond" and the speakers discussed the Royal College, NICE, the role of machine learning, a perspective from our European colleagues and a fascinating insight into the work of the GIRFT team.
The Vice President's symposium was titled "Individual Sustainablility - the robust surgeon/team, preventing burnout" and featured some of the most powerful and moving talks of the conference. We heard about the horrors of physician burnout in the USA, how the British military approach team building and stress, and Rachel Bell spoke about the keys to recovery from and prevention of burnout

Kinmonth Lecture
The 2019 Kinmonth Lecrure was delivered by Professor Jan Blankensteijn, professor of Vascular Surgery, Amsterdam UMC, from The Neatherlands. Professor Blankensteijn gave his talk on the current status of EVAR- Two decades of daydreams and nightmares.
Hunterian Lecture
The 2019 Hunterian Lecture was delivered by Umar Sadat a clinical lecturer in vascular surgery at addenbrooke's hospital. Mr Sadat gave his talk on morphological, biomechanical and functional assessment of atherosclerosis with magnetic resonance imaging.
